OAU: DSA ADMONISHES SU LEADERS TO SHUN CULTISM

The Dean, Division of Students Affair, Professor (Mrs.) Grace Akinola has admonished the students union leaders to shun any activity of cultism on OAU Campus.
The Dean disclosed this while delivering her welcome address in the inauguration of the new elected student union officials of Hall executive Council (HEC), Students Representative Council (SRC) and Central Executive Council on the 6th of march 2017.
Professor (Mrs.) Grace Akinola, a senior lecturer from the department of Management and Accounting Department was appointed into accounting department in 1978 and she specialises in Quantitative Techniques, Operations Research, Production Management and Marketing Management.
Having been appointed on the 9th of August 2016, she has been able to do that which Great Ife students requested by putting to heart their plights as a mother. She has successfully worked with the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Anthony Elujoba to perfect the reinstatement of Students’ Union activities on OAU Campus.
Madam DSA was quoted saying "I enjoin the students union leaders to support the management, the acting Vice Chancellor is so much interested in students' Union that is alive, when we came on board, we discussed on the need to give students their voice and on the 28th of October, the Registrar of the university signed a release that the management have lifted ban on the students union, when we asked for two representatives from each faculties, some students thought otherwise and on the 11th of February election started properly" , she said
She further advised the union leaders not to betray the trust their colleagues have in them to elect them as leaders and frown against cultism as the university is known to have zero tolerance for that.
The President of the union, Oyekan Ibukun assured that the union will cooperate with the management and collectively see to the better welfare of students on Obafemi Awolowo University campus.
Other Union executives are Emerald Tosin, Vice President, Adeoluwa Boluwajaiye, Secretary General, Oyebanjo Seun, Assistant Secretary General, Okediji Simon, Public Relations Officer, Omisakin Kehinde, Financial Secretary, Ajiboye Adekanmi, Welfare Director, Adebayo Afolabi, Director of Socials and Adewumi Micheal, Sport Director
Meanwhile, we could remember that the activities of OAU students union were suspended by Professor Bamitale Omole led administration, former Vice chancellor of the institution after a peaceful protest over poor welfare at the ending of 2015. Also the students union leaders were said to have disrespected and disruptted Professor Y. K. Yussuf's class, a professor of department of English.
