Nigeria's First Educational TV Unveils In OAU
The first educational television across Nigerian Tertiary Institutions, (EduTV) has officially been launched at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
The television which aims at promoting quality education through media and digitally advancing inyellectualism was unveiled on Thursday.
Speaking on birth of the TV, the founder of the platform, Femi Falemu while adressing the audience said one of the reasons for the TV is to connect and create link for all Nigerians students in tertiary institutions where knowledge can be shared and to develop talents in students in the field of broadcasting.
"The essence of this pioneering and innovative Television is to provide audio-visual contents that are absolutely educational for all."
"We have come to a time when education and its values are on serious decline. On this note, Education Television as a platform has come to support the goals of every stakeholders and investors in the education sector of our dear country positively".
"We see an environment within the education system of this country which will bridge the gap between theoretical and practical aspect cutting across the four walls of classroom and the industry", he said.
Ebenezer Akinyemi, one of the participants from University of Ibadan said using television for education among Nigerian students will negate the mindset that television is just for entertainment.
"This development will definitely negate the mindset many that you watch TV when you see are jobless. It shows that basic things taught in class can be learnt"
Another student from Lagos State University, Quadri Adesola said: "The television will help many with interest in broadcast journalism".
Adeosun Jeleel, The Polytechnic, Ibadan urged the initiators not to limit it reportage to universities. "Since it is for tertiary institutions, we will enjoined them to report our campus as well."
