Teachers of OAU Staff School Protest Over 9 Months Unpaid Salary

The teachers of Obafemi Awolowo University Staff School on Monday, 3rd of April protested at the Freedom Park of the University over nine months unpaid salary.

The staff were out in numbers with placards demanding immediate payment of their nine months salary in arrears from the University Management.

Mr. Owolawi Olaniyi, one of the protesting teachers who spoke with our correspondents said "the Management of the University have been cheating us, those selling to us on credit have stopped. When we visits the cooperative, we were sent back that no money for teachers working in staff school, we can't take this anymore. After all, they are receiving their own salary monthly".

Another worker, Prince Adeyemi Adelekan was also expressed his displeasure over the unpaid salary. He said "the University system is bad, we have been sold even on our Father land, we can't take this anymore, we demand immediately payment of our nine months salary in arrears ".

The former Chairman of Non Academic Staff Union, OAU chapter, Comrade Niyi Akinibi gave kudos to the staffs for protesting for their right. He said that the teachers have worked and they are entitled to get the reward of their labour which is the payment of their Salary.

Also, the Chairman of National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT OAU), Comrade Obafemi Ogunseyin has said that the union is in support of the teachers. "The teachers are part of the University system, we cannot be here and see our people suffer", NAAT Chairman said.

Meanwhile, Comrade Ademola Oketunde, Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has assured the teachers that all step shall be made to make them come out of the mess this month.
