OAU: STUDENT ARRESTED BY EFCC FOR INTERNET FRAUD
A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Taiye Shityu Habibulahi and Timothy Ademiju, a 36 year old Nigerian have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Ibadan zonal office for committing offence related to internet fraud and obtaining false pretence.
Mr. Timothy Ademiju who works in a new generational bank was alleged of terminating a deal with one Olaoluwa David, a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State to fleece an Italian called Giacomo Rossi of a huge amount of money while appearing as a lady by name, Grace Thomas.
We gathered that Mr. Timothy Ademiju allegedly perfected this fraudulent transaction through his position as a staff in charge of western money transfer coming from Giacomo Rossi to 'Grace Thomas'.
The EFCC arrested the duo involved in the scam after receiving a petition from the victim stating that he was reached on a dating site by one 'Thomas Grace posing to be an American Nursing Student of Obafemi Awolowo University, and was in need of financial help in form of loan to complete her programme in the varsity. Meanwhile, the loan was only used to tricked the Italian.
Report has it that the victim had been tricked of two thousand four hundred euros (€2,400) which is equivalent to one million, two hundred and twenty one thousand, six hundred naira (N1,221,600.00).
Also, NEWS TRACK heard that those involved in the fraud would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
