LAUTECH STRIKE: "GOVERNMENT WOULD SAY CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE WHEN THEY ALSO SPONSOR CIVIL MASSACRE" - EMMA O. EMMA

In a state of illegality, it is illegal to be legal - Gani Fawehinmi

Today again, policemen shot at protesting students. LAUTECH has been shut down for months due to the ineptitude, negligence and bestiality of the governors of Osun and Oyo State. Lives of young men and women are being used to play politics. The reaction? Students mobilized for a peaceful protest but were RESISTED AND ATTACKED by armed men, who shot, injured and battered innocent students on the order of the Commissioner of Police.

During the last OAU NASU struggle, the outgone administration of Bamitale Omole ordered that the policemen should shoot on sight of any staff or students protester. The DPO, Ife Divisional Police Station confirmed this sometimes last month. Of course, Omole Ibukun was not spared of the police brutality, when he was attacked immediately he stepped out of CAMPUS gate during the NASU struggle that ended the Tale Omole/Salami dynasty, he was beaten blue black and incarcerated for days.

Go and ask Adeyeye Olorunfemi what he faced in the hands of the police on the order of the # UNILAG management after the October 1 Mass Day of Action. Can you now see that we have been pushed to the wall? Can you now see what we have endured? Should it continue this way? What's the way forward? The ruling class is pushing the oppressed class to the stage where they would pick up arms for self defense.

In his book Negroes with Guns , Robert Williams describes how Blacks in North
Carolina who were organizing to integrate public swimming pools in the early 1960s had to fortify their homes with sandbags and train with rifles to stop night raids by the Ku Klux Klan. During the Civil rights movement, guards for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were armed. The government would start to say civil disobedience when they also
sponsor civil massacre. Where is it done?

To LAUTECH students, the struggle has just begun. Today's brutality is an open declaration of war by the ruling class. It is not LAUTECH vs Government. It is Oppressors vs Oppressed. The road might seem rough but WE SHALL OVERCOME!

VIVA ALUTA!
