LAUTECH CRISIS: POLICE FIRES BULLETS AT STUDENTS DURING PEACEFUL PROTEST

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH has accused the Nigerian Police Force of firing gun at them during their Friday protest.

Men of the Nigerian Police Force allegedly fired bullets at students protesting
the long term closure of their school in Ogbomoso today. Police has not
debunked this.

LAUTECH, which is jointly owned by the Oyo and Osun state government has
been under lock since June 9 over ranging issues that boiled down to payment
of salaries and arrears of workers in the University.

Both the ASUU and NASU, in the Ladoke Akintola University campus have
protested over their unpaid salaries, which both state government have found
no solution to.

According to Ayo, a 400l student in the faculty of Engineering, "ASUU members
in their Wednesday congressional meeting have insisted that until their salaries
and allowances are paid, the results of examinations will not be released.
"This was what prompted the Friday peaceful protest, but this was outrightly
frustrated by the Nigerian police who arrived the scene in their armoured
tanks, shooting tear gas and bullets at us .

Report have revealed that following the gun shot, several students got injured,
as they try to take cover from stay bullets.

Meanwhile, the Union of Campus Journalist UCJ LAUTECH chapter alongside
the National Association of Campus Editors NANCE, has said that they will
kick-start a social media campaign - #REOPENLAUTECH, that will last a week.
Busari Azeezat, President of the UCJ Lautech said that they are ready to
intensify their online campaign with support from various quarters including the
NANCE, this Sunday.
