SSANU Embarks on a 3-day Protest

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) has embarked on a 3-day protest which began on Monday.

The chairman of Ssanu, Obafemi Awolowo University ile Ife branch Mr Ademola Oketunde made this known to NEWSTRACK in a telephone conversation.

He said the protest is as a result of the bridge of aggreement by the Federal government on the disbursement of #8billion and the failure of the government to comply with the ruling of the court on the issue of staff school.

"The federal government enter into an agreement with us in 2009. In 2018, March to be precise, we went to Abuja to carryout a protest. The federal government then called on the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of non teaching Staff on campus that is NASU, NAAT AND SSANU to a meeting. The government agreed with us at the end of the day and granted us #8milion naira but the 8billion was not release till the point I'm speaking with you. So we are demanding the federal government for immediate disbursement of that #8billion to all federal universities."

On the issue of staff school, He said "The federal government also took us to court as regards staff schooland we won the case. The jugdement was deliver in our favour on December 5, 2016. Until now the government has not implemented the court order. We are demanding the federal government of Nigeria for God sake to obey the court order. A democratic government must obey the rules and regulation of the land in compliance with the court order.
