SUPER EAGLES OF NIGERIA TACKLES KNIGHTS OF LIBYA IN AFCON 2019 QUALIFYING MATCH
Super Eagles of Nigeria will today tackle Knights of Libya in a qualifying match for Africa cup of Nations, Cameroon 2019 at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
The Super Eagles who lost their first match against South Africa by two goals to nothing, revived their hope of qualification by defeating Seychelles 3 -0 away from home, currently sits third with 3 points while their opponent tops the standing with 4 points.
Super Eagles of Nigeria and Knights of Libya have met 3 times in which Nigeria won twice while their counterpart also won once.
Ahead of the match, the Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has said his team will not underrate their opponent. "Don’t underrate the team of Libya. They defend very well. We saw the games not only against South Africa but World Cup qualifiers,” Rohr said.
“ They did very well. They have a problem that they cannot play in their country but it gives them a huge motivation to play for their country.
“They can’t play because of the war in the country.
“We watched what they did. They have a strong defence with a very good goalkeeper. They have players playing abroad, two in the United States, two in Portugal, one in Raja Casablanca in the CAF Confederation Cup, some of them played in CHAN team. We saw in Morocco, they are four or five players from that CHAN team.
“They have an opportunity they are the leaders of the group and want to go to AFCON.
“We don’t underrate this team, we don’t look at the FIFA Ranking, one of our players said it already.”
Also, the captain of the team, Ahmed Musa is confident of the team's chances in getting their hopes of qualification on track ahead of the encounter. "Personally, this is the kind of games I love playing in and I am ready to help the team to win. We know the importance of the game, so we can't afford not to win because we did not qualify for the last two editions of AfCON. All that Nigerians want from us as a team is to win. I and my teammates are determined and focused on doing that," as quoted by Score Nigeria on Friday.
Kick-off time is 4pm Nigerian Time
