OAU MANAGEMENT THREATENS STRIKING WORKERS WITH OUTRIGHT DISMISSAL
The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife has recently stated that striking workers in the institution do not belong to any union on campus and has threatened them with outright dismissal if they do not return to work.
This was made known through a release signed by the Registrar D.O. Awoyemi , made available to our correspondent. The release stated that workers who are currently on strike do not belong to any staff unions and that their is no NASU members in the institution" many of the staff who have failed to work in recent weeks do not belong to any of the staff unions presently on national strike. Specifically, of the 2511 non- teaching staff in OAU, only 876 pay check-off dues to any union and legimately claim to belong to any union. For avoidance of doubt, OAU as of today has 720 members in Ssanu, 156 in Naat and no staff in Nasu".
The vice Chancellor therefore made a directive that any staff who do not officially belong to any of union on national strike and absented themselves from their duty post should resume immediately or face full wrath which may include outright dismissal from the University.
The management later admonished those who are genuinely on strike to consider the interest of the institution at all times and ensure the act within the regulations of the University and the laws of the land. The management will not entertain any form of lawlessness and unruly behaviour by any staff of the institution.
