By Adejumo Kabir

Following the crisis between the Hausas and Yoruba in Ile Ife last week, the Guarantee Trust Bank of Obafemi Awolowo University has ceased to operate since last week Thursday.

Earlier this morning, 13th of March 2017, the customers of the bank who are students of Obafemi Awolowo University stormed the Guarantee Trust Bank, OAU Campus stranded and demand reopening of the bank.

A student who spoke to Ife City Reporter under the condition of anonymity told our reporter that the bank has chosen to lock down their office at the expense of the students.

"I have the mindset of coming to bank this morning to withdraw so that I can go to the library to prepare for my exam starting on 20th of March. This may affect Great Ife students in her forthcoming exam", he said.

Another protester, a two hundred level student of psychology, Seun Ojuola expressed his displeasure by calling for the permanent shut down of the bank if they are not ready to work.

"Let lock down this place and turn it to bakery, it is one thing to have money in the back, it is another thing to have assess the bank" , Seun said.

The representative of the security unit of the varsity popularly called 'Baba lbeji' among the students appealed to students to calm down as they listen to what the bank branch manager has to say.

The branch manager while addressing the students said the closure boils down to the curfew in town that the Campus branch cannot work in isolation except the town branch works.

He further advised customers to use the nearest GT bank branch within the State of Osun by suggesting any branch in Ilesha or Osogbo.

Students reacted to this by saying ''NO''.
