OPINION: TIPS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH STAGE FRIGHT

Stage fright is the nervousness most young adults feel whenever they go on stage to perform, lead a program, or address the public.

Public speaking is said to be one of the biggest fear reported by most Nigerian adults, most of us feel a degree of nervous apprehension when preparing to speak up or perform in front of a group .

TIPS TO FOLLOW:

1. Shift focus from yourself and your fear to your purpose, which is to contribute something of value to the audience.

2. Don't bother yourself with thoughts about what might go wrong.

3. Visualize your success: focus on your strength and ability to handle challenging situations.

4. Prepare your materials yourself in advance and practice aloud.

5. Make connections with your audience, smile a lot.

6. Do not try to correct your mistakes because doing that will only draw attention to your flaws. Note that it is alright to make mistakes.

7. Do not fight your fear, work with it as it is bound to come.

8. Get to the venue early as this will help you to familiarize yourself with the atmosphere.
