OAU: ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT ATTEMPTS TO SWEEP MATTER UNDER CARPET FOR THE SAKE OF UNITY OF THE ASSOCIATION, ASRC REPEALS IMPEACHMENT PRONOUNCEMENT

The impeachment of the President of Nigeria Universities of Accounting Students Association, NUASAOAU, Mr. John Akpan over N5, 000 misappropriation that was pronounced  by the Students' Representatives of Council of the department on the 13th of January, 2017 in ICAN lecture theatre of the university has been looked into.

This was made known to journalists yesterday 20th of January, 2017 in a meeting called  press conference by the association which was moderated by the Staff Adviser of the Association, Mr. Adebayo Lawal Quadri.

The staff adviser made it known that the saga has been resolved. He then called on all members of the Students Representatives Council and the Executive Council respectively to sign on a document with the headline "REPEAL OF PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED RESOLUTION ON THE IMPEACHMENT OF THE PRESIDENT"

Though some members of the SRC showed reluctance (some kept going out) when called to sign, the Executive Council did as ordered by the staff adviser without delay and the staff adviser did same.

When pressmen asked whether the president has been reinstated or not, whether the earlier impeachment was a mistake from the legislative or not, the Deputy Speaker, Falaye Temitope responded that "they repeal for sustainability and unity of the association".

The staff adviser told journalists that the N5000 is in his custody.

Meanwhile, the President  said the money was added to make the white marker board in ICAN lecture theatre.

Also, the report  of the investigating committee signed by all members of the committee in the 5th sitting when the impeachment took place reads as follows: "After several investigations, it had been confirmed that the position of budget and finance committee was right and the president had admitted that only N10,000 was paid for the zoo entrance as against the N15, 000 the president insisted at the last sitting"

The above shows that there is contradiction between what the staff adviser said, what the president said, what the leadership of the house said and the report of the investigating committee.

A top source from the university who spoke on anonymity after the press conference was quoted saying "the SRC members were threatened with their results to repeal the impeachment".

Some members of the SRC were also seen crying after the press conference.
