NANS REJECTS PROPOSED INCREASE IN DATA TARIFF.
The leadership of Nans Senate, Com. Salam Oyejide outrightly rejects the planned policy and directive of NCC to network providers to increase data tariff as from 1st of December 2016.
NCC as network regulator should rather come out with pro-people policy rather than hiding under the shadow of protecting small firms or new entrants into the communication industry to increase the hardship of the masses, as such directive at this economic period is nothing but a plot to widening the gap of unequal distribution of income.
The role of internet in this modern days cannot be overemphasis. Youth, businessmen, especially students used this data for perfection and effective operations in their endeavours.
Increase in data tariff is tantamount to increasing the illiteracy level in the country thereby posing a great danger to the system.
Students for example has relied on internet for effective studying and engaging different views and ideas from every part of the world through internet library. This has helped students developers to harness their expertise and develop their talent in the field of information communication technology.
Apart from the businesses, students and youths, the general populace has adopted internet to be conversant with events around the world thereby linking them to their colleagues around the world.
Increase in data tariff is likened to clamping down on the economy which needs every sectors for its survival.
Nigerian students will not keep quiet to killing of their privileges and slaughtering of their rights since every child has a right to education. Increased data tariff by Federal government is tantamount to denying us of effective and qualitative education.
We shall not deter until our voice is heard and amendment made.
God bless NANS
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
