The Fairy Tales Of Leicester's David
Leicester First of all I would like to congratulate Leicester city-the worst team to win the EPL Before I go on I would like to declare my bias; am a Chelsea fan you might probably think I hate liciester city after reading this and I probably do But it also gives me a unique take on the Leicester story, and that is this: we have gone, collectively, fundamentally, temporarily, insane . And we are lying to ourselves. This madness has taken many form but it became very obvious to me during the Leicester Sunderland match and I found myself shocked at how bad Leicester city are maybe that day was a bad day for them or not. I watched a team that wasn’t just unable to string more than two passes together the next pass would most likely be an overhead pass for vardy to chase, this happened again and again and again. It was like watching a Nigerian league match in fact some teams in Nigerian league play better football than what I saw that day. They struggled , and eventually Vardy got the goals he always seems to get Don’t get me wrong they play to their strengths, and they do it very well, and quite right too. You get the ball to the two players who can hurt teams and the rest do their best too. But imagine my surprise when a friend of mine compared to Barcelona and Leicester city fans chanting " Barcelona, we're coming for you" And I realised: it’s our collective lie now, isn’t it? We all love the fairy tale story about the Leicester David against the moneybag Champions League Goliaths side of Chelsea Man city (forget the rest); Of Claudio Ranieri, who was favourite for the sack at the season’s start and is now favorite for manager of the year; the team who, at the start of April last year, were seven points away from safety, are now champions. But I’m not getting carried away by the euphoria. If you say Leicester are an average side having a once-in-a-lifetime run of form. Great! I agree. We don’t need to do a Buhari and deceive ourselves . We seemed to have refused to acknowledge how much luck has played a part in Leicester’s recent rise, this might seem a boorish thing to say about a team that didn't concede a goal for five consecutive games But Rodwell missing an open goal for Sunderland at 1-0 down with minutes to go should not be called resilience on the part of the Leicester city players but simply pure luck They've been virtually injury-free: eight of their players have missed two games or fewer, with no freak twists of the knee or leg-breaking tackles putting Riyad Mahrez or Wes Morgan out for the season. They have been awarded twice as many penalties as anyone else in the league. They only have one competition to concentrate on. This will probably all seems like sour grapes. (It’s meant to be). Leicester city won, it is the greatest achievement in the history of the Premier League, and perhaps, given the financial power of their rivals, the entire history of the top flight. The story’s already a great one. We don’t need to make it up.
Forgive any blunder
