My argument on the 68 percent hike on fuel price has always being the re-visiting of our refineries before removing fuel subsidy in order to reduce the hardship it would cost Nigerians.

I was against the removal of fuel subsidy by Goodluck Jonathan because he did not think of refurbishing our refineries before removing subsidy. The argument has been that 'the shortage of dollars resulting from the fallen value of the naira and depleted foreign reserves — we can’t afford to
import as much as we used to' the question to ask is, must we always import refined crude oil? NO!

We have to refurbish our refineries so that we would be refining the product here instead of refining it abroad in order to reduce the hardship it would cost Nigerians.

This all would count against the
incumbent administration. But Buhari and the All
Progressives Congress are still enjoying a honeymoon with majority of Nigerians. And the corruption of
the past remains a plausible and handy explanation of all current ills. And so Buhari’s negotiators were able to persuade union representatives that a fuel price hike is the only way out, despite his campaign promises to the contrary.

Buhari is an amalgam of the insular autocrat and a wily politician, he has been successful in setting the unions against one another, he has weakened them that they can't successfully confront his evil policies. The fuel hike was orchestrated by Buhari and his acolytes to the extent that he looked like a master political strategist more than the army field commander he was. He has been successful in hoodwinking Nigerian people. Buhari administration has to some extent successfully pulled a
Maradona on the labour unions? There is certainly the case for another Babangida trademark: divide-and-conquer.

With the new sheriff in town, no one really know how the protest would unfold
