9th National Assembly: PDP Drums Support For Ndume, Bago

The battle to become the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives took another dimension as the main opposition party, PDP, declared their support for Senator Ndume and Hon. Bago for the apex legislative seats respectively.

The National Assembly will today elect their principal officers who will champion the affairs of  the legislative Arm for the next 4 years.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by People's Democratic Party through its National Secretary, Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, said the final resolution on Senator Ndume and Hon. Bago was reached at the end of a decisive meeting of members of the National Working Committee, party leaders, state governors as well as senators and members-elect on the platform of the PDP.

“This decision is in the best interest of the nation, in line with our party’s determination to deepen democracy, ensure a strong and independent legislature, strict compliance with the principle of separation of powers as well as constitutional checks and balances in the polity.

“All senators and members-elect on the platform of the PDP are to be guided accordingly,” the statement read

Earlier the ruling party, All Progressives Congress had declared their support for Senator Ahmed Lawan for the post of the Senate President as well as Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for Speaker of the House of Representatives
